using archive gateway

This document will help you learn how to use the web-based archive/compression utility. The Archive Gateway is a tool to compress, archive, unarchive and uncompress files in your web hosting account from an easy to use Control Panel web based interface.

The Archive Gateway works with these file types:

File Extension

File Type

.gz

GNU gzipped files

.tar

UNIX tar files

.Z

UNIX compressed files

.zip

Zipped files (Winzip, Pkunzip)

To uncompress a UNIX compressed file (.Z) or uncompress a GNU gzipped file (.gz) perform these steps.

  1. Run the Archive Gateway from your BSI Control Panel.
  2. Go to the "Uncompress/Unarchive a File" form.
  3. Type in the name of the file to uncompress in the Input File field .
(e.g. You have a file named test.tar.gz in your "/" directory on your website You would then type in "/test.tar.gz" for the input filename)
  4. Leave the "/" in the Output Directory field.
  5. Press Extract/Uncompress.
  6. The output from the operation will be displayed.
  7. The input file has been decompressed. (So the file in the example above test.tar.gz would be replaced by test.tar)

  4. Type in the name of directory where you want the file unarchived into in the Output Directory field.
  5. Press Extract/Uncompress.
  6. The output from the operation will be displayed.
  7. The Output Directory will contain the files from the archive.
