Current
BSI Service Architecture
BSI’s commitment to customer
service and technical excellence rivals that of enterprise level
hosts.
Our rapid growth is possible due to our dependable, available and
scalable architecture. Built to satisfy the needs or our world-wide
customer base, we are constantly evaluating and improving our Data
Center. Currently, we are expanding to include and offsite MCI
facility. This move will offer greater capacity and allow us to
improve our disaster recovery efforts.
 Itnernet
Connectivity
BSI connectivity consists of three DS3's (45 Mbps.) provided
by Espire, Frontier Global and MCI/UUNET totaling 135 Mbps of bandwidth.
This connection is achieved through two fiber-optic connections (dual OC-12s),
which allow us to quickly add bandwidth.
 Routers
BSI runs
two Cisco 3660 routers to connect to the Internet.
We keep a backup router onsite in case of router
failure. Additionally, we run full BGP4 ensuring
that any Internet connection that fails is rerouted
immediately. BGP4 also picks the shortest path on
which to send data.
 Servers
The BSI Data Center is comprised of Sun UltraSparc IIi servers with
Fast-wide SCSI and 100 Mb. Ethernet. Only UNIX servers running
Solaris are used for maximum reliability and servers are monitored
closely to ensure they are never overloaded. Our average server
load is in the range of .10 to 1.0. BSI also maintains separate
name, mail and administrative servers. Currently we host approximately
600 accounts per server. This optimal account density yields better
performance, reliability and customer value. 24x7
Network Monitoring
The BSI Data Center utilizes Sitescope monitoring software to provide
24/7 detection of potential problems. This allows BSI to take preventative
measures, ensuring that your website stays up and running.
RAID
System
BSI web servers are equipped with Ultra SCSI drives setup in a RAID 1 configuration.
RAID 1 allows data to be mirrored between two identical hard drives in
real-time. If one hard drive fails on the web server, the second hard drive
will immediately take over.
 Daily
Server Backup
Our backup system consists of a 4.2 Terabyte robotic tape
library. We backup our web servers via a separate network so the
web server network does not become overloaded. We keep a full backup
offsite in case of Data Center failure. We perform daily backups
of all servers.
Backup
Power Generator
The BSI Data Center uses two methods of power backup to ensure that
our servers and other equipment are always on. A battery powered Uninterruptible
Power System or UPS is in place to ensure that if there is a temporary
power failure all servers will remain powered. If there is a significant
power outage, a backup power generator is in place to provide power for
as long as necessary.
 Climate
Control
BSI runs quad air conditioning units to ensure even temperature
throughout the Data Center. We monitor the temperature 24x7 and will
be paged if the temperature exceeds operating limits.
